Read Matthew 4:18-22
·
What
do you think we are supposed to learn from this scripture
·
How does it relate to being called?
·
Is there any part of the passage that confuses
you that other members of your group might be able to clarify?
Rhythm game – have one person
stand away from the group where they cannot see or hear the group. Then those who are left in the group choose a
leader. Whatever this person does, the
other group members must do. So for example
this person might start by clapping their hands, and everyone else starts
clapping their hands. Once everyone is
doing this, call back the person who went away from the group. They stand in the middle of the circle, and
watch the group. The person who is the
leader must occasionally change motions.
For example they might stop clapping their hands and start tapping their
finger on their nose instead. Everyone
else must follow suit. You don’t want to
look directly at the leader, because you don’t want the person in the middle to
know who the leader is, but at the same time you need to follow as quickly as
possible. The person in the middle has 3
guesses to figure out who is the leader. (see
Katy if you have questions)
Play this game a few times
then discuss:
§
How
was it trying to follow the leader? What
made it easy or hard?
§
How
can we relate that to trying to follow Jesus?
§
What
was it like trying to guess who the leader was?
o
In
this game, you were trying to follow the leader closely enough that the person
in the middle could not guess who the leader was. When we are following Jesus, we aim to look
like him. We don’t want people to see us
in our actions, but instead to see Christ.
Then we are better able to reach people because we are reflecting
Christ’s love.
What makes it hard to follow Christ?
What makes it hard to reach out and share
Christ, even when we are following?
Split into pairs and brainstorm some ways that
you can share the story of God and reach out to those around you while on this
trip. What about when you go home?
Once you have brainstormed in pairs, share your
ideas with your small group.
Encourage them to do their plan sometime during
the trip
Close with prayer
